Things That Go Bump and Ring In The Night

We have a white noise machine thingy in our bedroom... we used to have an air filter that made a ton of noise and we got used to it. After a while we stopped using it becasue we read somewhere that such filters realeased ozone into the air air or something like that and did more harm than good.

Once we stopped using it though we discovered we cannot sleep without the noise of it. It masked all the other noises in the house and we found ourselves waking up in the night saying "What was that?" or "Did you hear that?" So we bought a white noise machine thingy.

Last night I woke up at 4:28am to a new sound. It sounded like a large crackling flame or an army of rats scurrying across our hardwood floors. Neither of which I wanted in our new home. The smoke alarms were not going off so it was probably nothing. I lay there for a moment and knew I would not be able to get to sleep if I didn't get up and check what it was.

I tried not to wake Ron up... really I did. Our bedroom door squeeks and I'm afraid it did wake Ron up. Turns out the noise was the sound of hail or freezing rain hitting the skylights in the livingroom. It was really loud and weirdly enough it stopped for a moment when I opened the bedroom door.

So there we are, awake. After about a half an hour we are both almost back to sleep when the phone rang. Now I don't know about you but when the phone rings between the hours of 12am and 7am it is usually not good news. Fortunately this was just a wrong number, but it's enough to get your heart and mind racing. In that split second a thousand bad things go through your head. It took me a while to get back to sleep after that.

Why You Should Shoot in RAW Format Whenever Possible.

JPEG is a "lossy" file format. This is what happens to a JPEG when it is opened 600 times.

Neil Gaiman on The Colbert Report

If you haven't read this or any of his books yet I highly recommend that you do.
And before you watch this clip you should know that Mr. Gaiman's father passed away just about a week and a half ago. Brings a whole new meaning to this interview if you know that.

Still Sick...

...and y'all are still sick of hearin' about it.

Ever cough up a phlegm gloober so big you thought you should name it?
Charles or Biff seem appropriate.

Sick and Bored

I am home sick today... not cool since I was supposed to return from vacation today, but what can I do... I really am really sick. No one would thank me for showing up and spreading my germs around and I'll already be spending the coming days catching up from stuff I missed during vacation so what's one more day?

So as you can see... I've changed the look of things here. I am feeling well enough to stare at a computer and don't feel like watching TV. Coincidentally this template sort of matches what we've done to our living room. I'll be tweaking the sidebar soon. Let me know what you think.

Adventures in Home Ownership

We are finished painting the major areas of the house! Yay! And now I am sick. YAY!?!?
I started to feel a shade crappy about midweek but I shrugged it off figuring it was allergies and being tired, but no, I am most certainly sick. FEH. We went to a Bruin's game Thursday night and that was fun, but that is also when I started to really feel the evil that now resides within me.

I have a few more photos of the house to upload but I don't feel like doing squat right now. I want my blankie!

Adventures in Home Ownership!

Yesterday with Alexi's help we got the entire first coat of paint applied to the walls including the wicked high ceiling parts. We are getting a slow start today.

I loaded more photos of our progress and they can be seen HERE.

Adventures in Home Ownership!

And the winner is....
GRAY!

Yup, we're painting the bulk of the house gray... two different shades to be precise. Everything is getting at least one coat of the lighter gray because as a bonus it also acts as a primer! Then a few select walls will be a dark gray and one wall will be red! We have to have at least one red wall, right?

We are about a third of the way done with the first coat of gray... we are hoping to finish the second coat on everything today.

Adventures in Home Ownership!

I've been living in a beige living room in my head long enough to realize it may not be the color for us. Okay, it's actually called "Toasted Cashew" but lets be clear, it's beige. We have also been stuck on having the wall around the fireplace red. The idea behind this color combo was Hellboy of course... Hellboy red with his tan coat.

We bought some testers in three shades of beige yesterday and viewed them in evening light and daylight this morning. None of them wow us. The battle of the beige has been lost.

We have determined that the longer we have to think about something the more likely we will change our minds at the last minute. We are off to the hardware store for more paint testers! The decision will be made by this afternoon come hell or high water! Stay tuned to see what colors we are going with next!

Vacation, of a sort

Ron and I are on vacation for the next week to paint the biggest part of our new house. All sincere offers of help will be seriously considered. I plan on taking pictures during this so stay tuned!

I actually had a typo up there... I wrote kelp instead of help. I am afraid I have no need of any kelp.

Here's the follow up on the ring story...

Wednesday, March 04, 2009

Today was one of those days where the soundtrack to the movie The Dark Knight seemed to fit my mood perfectly. If you've heard it or seen the movie you know what I'm talking about. Not a bad day... just a another day at work. At least I didn't go and , oh... swallow my engagment ring.

Monday, March 02, 2009

I know I haven't posted in almost a week... probably the longest stretch of time of non posting I've had in a while. I just haven't had a whole lot to say and I haven't found too many silly things to share.

I'm on my laptp today... my main computer is being most thoroughly cleaned by my dear hubby. It seems I picked a real baddy of a virus and it's not happy.

Well, it's snowing... alot. There's a delayed opening at the library today, but it doesn't help me out any... I don't go in til one anyway. I have to call at 11 to see if they are going to be open at all and I feel like I am in sort of a holding pattern until then. Don't feel like doing anything anyway. I feel like I can't start anything because I don't know if I am going to have to get off my ass and go to work... I should at least go get showered and dressed now, 'cause I'll probably have to leave early to get there by 1pm.

*sigh*

But damnit, I don't feel like it. Well, my battery needs charging and I should go shower.
