Dreams...

Yesterday morning I dreamt I was accepted into an exclusive academy for the training of opera singers.

Now it should be noted that I can't sing to save my life. In the dream we are required to take a few non-singing related electives. I choose figure drawing figuring I could brush up on that skill since it has been many, many years.

The electives classes are off campus at Brookline High School... apparently they have some sister school program, and when I get there my brother Bill, sister Angela and nephew Dylan are there. Apparently there is something in our family's vocal cords that produces good opera singers. Dylan is upset because he does not want to learn to sing, nor does he wish to learn Italian, which is requiredof all opera singers.

I have the weirdest dreams...

Open Studios!!!

Today Ron and I went to the Fountain Street Open Studios. The Fountain Street Studios are in an old factory building near my high school... I used to walk through the property on my way to work every day after school... long before it became artist studios and not nearly as safe as it is now.

We saw alot of great art, including many photographers, and if you missed it, they are are open again tomorrow. More info can be found HERE.

Feelin' the Foo

So I mentioned earlier this week that we had a little stomach distress whilst on vacation. Our last night in PA we decided we wanted chinese food. Ron went online and found a local restaurant called Foo Joy. Years ago we learned that Fung Wah was another way to say "we're fucked" and we can now add Foo Joy to our vocabulary.

The food was delicious. Really it was. But when I found myself in the hotel bathroom at 2am trying to vomit it was not so pleasant. Vomit, shit, anything. I was in alot of abdominal pain and it had Foo Joy written all over it.

Normally I would go through all kinds of discomfort to not vomit. I don't like vomiting... but really, who does? In the past I have been known on a few occasions to drink more than I ought to and a girl who drinks soon learns that vomiting is a good thing. Drink, vomit, take bow, rinse mouth, repeat. (Relax people... I don't do that much anymore and the few time I have can be counted on one hand.)

So I was feelin' the Foo until the morning and Ron fell afoul of the Foo the next day. (Say fell afoul of the Foo out loud... it's fun!) Here we are five days later and we are still feeling the effects of the Foo. Our guts feel a tad bruised, but each day we are a little better.

If Stink Had a Color It Would Be The Poopy Green Font Below.

Last night we had one of the windows open in the bedroom. It was a lovely night so why not? Well, the neighborhood skunks thought it was a lovely night as well and one came close to the window. The smell was so strong not only could I taste it, it woke me up from a sound sleep. That my friends is a powerful stink! It smelled like the thing was in the room with me. I should mention we are in the basement and the windows in our bedroom are about 8 inches off the ground. Peee-yooooo!

Holy Fucking Bruins Batman!

We have just arrived home only to discover that the Bruins have made it to game 7! HOLY FUCKING CRAP! Sounds like we missed some good hockey! Weel, the game starts in 20 minutes... just enough time to take a shower and start dinner.

I'll write about extreme intestinal distress and our speeding ticket later.

Ahhh... a lazy Sunday in the middle of nowhere.
See y'all tomorrow!

Saturday, April 19, 2008

The weather has been way the fuck hotter than we expected. It was close to 90 degrees yesterday. It was 35 degrees at night just before we left Massachusetts and we brought clothing more suitable to cooler weather. Fortunately I brought some sunscreen with us. I missed a spot on my neck and have a pink patch to show for it.

So, what have we been up to?
Well, yesterday we toured Gettysburg. We got to the new Visitors Center that just opened this passed Monday (timing is everything) and discovered that for $55 you can get a private tour from a Licensed Battlefield Guide. We spontaneously decided to spring for it and found it worth every damn penny. Our guide knew way more than the 2 1/2 hour tour and he went out of the way to show us a few things not on the tour. He even drove our car for us. Simply awesome!

Last night we spent the night in Carlisle at The Rodeway Inn. This was quite possibly the skeeviest hotel room I've ever spent a night in but it was dirt cheap and we figured at the very least would make for a good story later. As long as there were no bugs we figured it was fine. The TV didn't work and an 8 fingered man who looked a lot like Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs switched it for another from another room.

Today we explored Centralia Pennsylvania. Centralia is the town with the coal mine fire going on under it. Back in the 1960's someone thought it would be a good idea to use an old mine shaft as the town dump and then someone thought it would be a good idea to burn it. There has been an underground coal mine fire raging ever since and the town has been pretty much abandoned.

We saw smoke venting up out of the ground a few feet from where we were standing, sinkholes and a whole lot of nuthin'. There are a couple of families still living here but the whole place was rather sad.

Tonight we are in Allentown just chillin' out. We're planning on doing a whole lot of nuthin' until leaving here Monday morning.

Just a quick post here... not sure if we'll have a connection this evening. Met the sweetest little old lady inthe gift shop of the General Lee Museum. If she could bottle that smile she'd make a million bucks.

We filled up on free breakfast and now we're ready to hit the road again.

Thursday, April 17, 2008

We had a private tour of the Frida Kahlo exhibit today... well, private if you think seeing it with a dozen other people before the museum opens private. It was AWESOME! Well worth the drive down here.

After we went toThe American Helicopter museum.

We're wicked tired so I'll post links later... or you can Google it.

Tonight we're in Gettysburg staying at General Lee's headquarters. Really.

Alright, I said we were tired, so now we're off to sleep.
G'night!

Treasure Hunt!

We are hiding stamped & addressed postcards for people to find along our travels. If you or anyone you know lives in Pennsylvania you can go hunt for them. We have hidden 3 so far! See below for updates on hiding places. Tell your friends!

#1 - In a catalog at The Mercer Museum
#2 - In a corner on the first floor of The Mercer Museum
#3 - In a copy of Blankets, a graphic novel, at The Free Library in Philly

Stay tuned for more! Maybe we'll stash some at the Frida Exhibition.

#4 - Pamphlet Rack at The Best Western Center City Philadelphia
#5 - Women's restroom at the Philly Art Museum
#6 - Pamphlet Rack near coat room at Philly Art Museum.
#7 - American Helicopter Museum - under a notebook full of children's drawings
#8 - American Helicopter Museum - In a UH-1 Huey

#9 - In our room at The Quality Inn at General Lee's headquarters.
#10 - The pamphlet rack at The Gettysburg Visitors Center
#11 - On our table at The Red Robin restaurant in Carlisle. (Off of Route 81)
#12 - In the ladies room of a rest area on Route 80 on the changing able.
#13 - In the pamphlet rack at the same rest area.

We're in Philly!

We stopped at The Mercer Museum on our way down here, a small detour, but well worth it to visit this weird and wonderful place. We immediately thought Kenny & Carol would love this museum. Next time we are down here we must allow for more time in this museum.

We are staying at the same dive hotel we stayed in before, but the price isn't too bad and it's familiar. We are a stones throw from Eastern State Penitentiary and I can hear its sirens call beckoning to me. We both love that place, but this trip is all about seeing some Frida Kahlo artwork without having to learn Spanish or risk intestinal distress.

Happy 1st Birthday Shae!

It's been a year already!

And now for something cute and fun!

Buckle Up... It's Gonna Be A Bumpy Ride.

Why can't a certain someone just be a nice, well adjusted person?
There is only one person in the world who makes me truly, truly angry and I bet they don't even know it. The word rage could very easily apply here. And just when you think someone has fucked up as much as humanly possibly they go and take it one step further... and even then couldn't get it right.

Well, I mentioned a bittersweet victory several nights ago... bittersweet indeed. This is just the beginning of something that's going to get ugly and strange. Someday I'll write a book about it. Shit, I should be writing it down somewhere if only for my own personal record keeping... it's time to start keeping a proper journal again. Perhaps someone involved would like to read it in the future when they are wondering what happened? But it's not my story to tell...

YAY! the Bruins won tonight!
Shae's birthday party was fun and hanging out with everyone, especially Dylan was great. Things are happening and happening fast and hopefully all will work out for the best.

I'm exhausted and we are going on vacation in two days... didn't get a chance to do any laundry tonight... gonna have to get up early tomorrow and do that.
ciao dearies!

ZZZzzz....

Had a good day today... went to a sewing & quilting expo in Woostah with my mom. Ron shot things with guns with his father. We are going to Shae's 1st birthday party tomorrow and quietly pondering what may be a bittersweet victory, but that is yet to be seen.

I know that's another vague post but I'm tired and I will go into details about this whole busy crazy weekend later.

G'night!

Vaguely Weird

What a weird fuckin' day... work was annoying, though I found it more annoying on Wednesday... I absolutely did not have the patience for it on Wednesday, then Aunt Flo decided to kick my ass which probably explains why I had no patience for the usual work thing on Wednesday.

So yeah, today was weird... nothing particularly special about it, just weird... a weird vibe to it all... ended weird too, but good. I even made it home in time to watch the new episode of Battlestar Galactica... only missed the first 3 minutes or so. Frakin' crack that show is.

I know this is vague, but I'm feeling vague and y'all are just going to have to deal with it. Weird, eh?

We Are Fierce Huntresses... Doing Our er... Hunting Thing. Yeah.

What a day!
Went clothes shopping with Carol and Carrie today. That was... enlightening. All the weight I lost at while attending school has snuck back on to my pearly white ass when I wasn't looking. Okay, maybe not all of it but I no longer fit into a hard won size 10. Unless you count the $6.97 jeans we found at JC Penney... they are a size 10, they were cheap and fit me like I was born in them. I bought two pairs.

H&M is a trendy modern version of Tello's. (Good lord, remember Tello's? they're STILL around.) I think the words tragically hip apply here and there sizes run on the small side. SMALL. Lots of cute stuff and I may make the effort to back there... someday... after a sit up or six. Carol and I found the same exact skirt so we now have to consult on another before wearing it... perhaps we can just pick days? I call Mondays and Wednesdays!

Carrie had to boogie home to meet Sir Jack at the bus stop after school so Carol and I had lunch. We were going to eat at Foley's but we couldn't find it. We tried... we really did! I have never tried to find the place on foot and during daylight hours before and I think it threw me off. We walked alot though and maybe toned up our asses a bit in the process.

The Garment District was a hoot as usual... more entertainment than actual wardrobe enhancement. I found a cute vest/bodice that practically serves the girls up dinner. Breasts... the other white meat. One of the buttons fell off but I fixed up and reinforced the rest of them this evening. I also bought a belly dance belt the sparkles and makes lots of noise. What fun! Carol and I ventured into the dollr a pound pile and I found two items with potential. They require delousing before I actually try them on though. Carol scored a pretty sweet pair of Doc Marten's wicked cheap... not that I'm jealous or anything.

So after shopping in Boston and Cambridge with mixed results we consoled ourselves at JC Penney's in Natick. Can you say good sale racks? I got 2 pairs of jeans, a long flowing skirt, a long sleeved blouse and 2 tshirts for about fifty bucks. Can you say fresh kill? Victory at last was at hand! All I had to do after that was strap that load to the front of the car and call it a day.

Happy April Fool's Day!

I don't have any elaborate pranks planned this year... really. Y'all can rest easy. Really.
Don't have much to say these days either... I've been busy but most of the folks I know already know that so that isn't really news.

Stan and Ali moved! But I'm sure when their lives settle down Stan will blog about it HERE. They are also engaged! Woot! Their new place is soooo cool!

Um... what else... I'm still behind on photos... nuthin' new about THAT... feelin' kind of tired and groggy today so before this turns into a maudlin', what haven't I done lately, bitchy sort of rant I think I'll end this and go take a shower. It's gonna be beautiful out today so get out and enjoy it!
