Tick-Tock!

I have yet another hectic week ahead of me... I tell you, I picked a shitty time of year to return to working full time while trying to complete an 18 month long photography program! What the fuck was I thinking?

I am supposed to go to school and print a bunch of my work for the graduation show in January but I simply don't have time. I am suppose to work a full week this week, with a day off in Jan 1st for the holiday and everything including school is closed so that doesn't help me, and get 5 images printed, matted and delivered by 5pm Friday. Monday in New Years Eve and I work all day, NY's Day everything closed... hmm.... Wednesday night? I could print then IF the classroom with the printers in it is available and that leaves Thursday evening to matte everything and deliver because I work until 5pm Friday. I could "get sick" again on Friday if I am desperate, but I've been legitmately sick so much in the last month I don't think that will fly.

So to solve this dilemma I sort of cheated. I am having my images printed for me. This is one instance where a little money can solve a problem. YAY. Here's hoping they are delivered on time or you will see me freaking out at school Wednesday evening.

In other news, Christmas was a drama-free affair! That is always a good thing. We are actually going somewhere for New Years Eve this year which is a refreshing change as we almost never go out on this night... no reason really, we are usually just too wiped out from Christmas to make the effort.

Okay, I've bitched... now to get moving and start my day. I feel better by the way... bronchitis is almost gone... still horking up the occasional piece of chewing gum, but nothin' major. I can almost breathe again and after graduation I will really be able to breathe! Then on to planning the rest of my life... right?

Benazir Bhutto

"Here lies the sorceress of Alois, who loved the people who killed her." - Tamora Pierce from The Woman Who Rides Like A Man

To have a female leader in a Muslim country was a small glimmer of light in an otherwise dark world. Some might call this sorcery, or at best, unnatural. Perhaps that is why she is now dead? Yesterday she was snuffed out like a candle long before her time.

Perhaps she is not like a candle, but like a dandelion? A small, tenacious little weed that once plucked leaves a dozen more popping up behind her whether you like it or not. Only time will tell. Martyrs are important in most cultures, and seem especially so to Muslims. Perhaps others will use her death for good?

I don't know her politcs well, but to have a female leader in a part of the world where women generally aren't treated very well was a breath of fresh air.

Random Update

As y'all know I am sick. AGAIN.
This time I require lots of rest and antibiotics. And of course resting is difficult during this busy time of year. I have also returned to my regular full time work schedule.

I have alot to do and I am behind on everything. Paying clients come first, printing for holiday gifts and schoolwork comes second and everyone else is gonna have to wait in line. I haven't forgotten any of you and I will get to everything as soon as I can.

I will get well eventually and I graduate in one month. Hopefully things will calm down soon.

Thank you all for your patience.

Return of the Plague!

Remember a few scant weeks ago when I had the latest plague going around? Well, I got better. I swear I got better! But then, like a Decepticon transforming when you least expect it my cooties seem to have morphed into a new evil.

I cannot speak. Well, I can, but it hurts and it's barely audible. I feel fine otherwise, if a little tired from the lack of sleep the last few nights, but really, I feel pretty damn good otherwise.

Just swallowing and talking are not so hot right now. I can't win. I wonder if this is a new cootie? Perhaps something picked up from one of the 1,000 or so people I brushed against this weekend?

Still Killing Time....

...So I Scrooged Myself.
Sounds dirty, don't it?

It IS Awesome!

I just spent the last 6 or so hours shooting about 1,000 photos and getting paid quite handsomely for it. I have wicked hand crampage right now!

It's very late, but I am killing time here while waiting for back up DVD's of tonight shoot burn merrily away! I won't be able to sleep until I have at least 3 copies of everything AND I have looked at them all.

So where exactly WAS I? Well, I was shooting the holiday party of an advertising agency who are the brains behind The Subservient Chicken and THIS WEBSITE, as well as many others. They booked a well known Boston nightclub for the affair and I am exhausted! Since I do not talk about "work" here this is all I will say for now. Their motto is "It's Gonna Be Awesome" and it's certainly true in their case!

Well, disk one just finished, on to disk two! Then off to bed!

P.S. I recommend making the chicken riverdance.

What Year Is It?

It's a little late, but Saturday was "Pretend You're a Time-Traveler Day" I an putting this in my calender now for next year. Now where is my sonic screwdriver?

For Hopefully The Last Time, What Is Really Wrong With the Film Industry.

I just read THIS ARTICLE about the new movie The Golden Compass and how it won't be able to save an ailing movie business. I know Ron and I have both ranted about this before and I am surprised the movie big-wigs still haven't figured out what is wrong with their industry. It seems I have to spell it out one more time for these people, in the extremely off chance one of them is reading this.

1.) The movies that are being produced these days generally suck. They suck like a starving vampire at a pep rally.

What was the last movie you saw in a theatre? Did you love it? Where you anxious to run home and blog about it, call your friends, write your mamma and tell the world about it. Unlikely.

When was the last time you saw a trailer and thoght "I MUST SEE THAT!" More than likely you said "look's kinda cool" or shrugged your shoulders and thought, "I can wait for the rental" Or better yet, when was the last time you witnesses a crowd laughing at a trailer and it wasn't a comedy? A film is flying at suck facter 12 when that happens.

2.) The DVD comes out too quickly.
You no longer have to wait a year to see that crappy film for a fraction of the cost of seeing it in the theatre in the comfort of your own home. You can buy it, Netflix it, borrow it from the library or rent it by other means far cheaper than the cost of a night at the movies for the average family. It's a good thing the rental comes out so quickly these days because...

3.) The movies leave the theatre too quickly.
Movies are in the theatre for so short a time that by the time I've heard about it and thought, "hmmm.... I might make the effort to see that, let me check my calendar" the movie is gone. This year alone I have anticipated a few movies... the one about
Diane Arbus and Elizabeth: The Golden Age come to mind and thought to myself "when are they gonna come out?" only to find out that they came and went when I wasn't looking.

People are also busy. Often too busy to see a movie opening weekend and by the time they get around to going the movie they want to see is gone. there have been times when a movie has opened and *poof* two weeks later it was gone. Two weeks? Yup. Movies are supposed to be fun and no one wants to feel rushed to get to the theatre before it's too late.

4.) Opening Night Sucks.
If you think the movie you want to see might be any good it is highly likely that others feel the same. Opening night is going to be crowded. Why fight crowds when you can wait for the rental in 4 months? Why eat an early dinner, get in the car, waste the gas, wait in line on the off chance the movie hasn't sold out? Because despite the suck facter, movies do still sell out on opening nights, especially if Harry Potter is involved. Everyone is in a rush to see the stupid thing before it disappears in two weeks. The movie industry may think they are creating a demand by dangling a film in the theatre in front of us for a short time, but they are really just creating apathy about the whole thing.

And crowds SUCK. Who wants to sit next to the teenager checking his text messages? The folks who won't shut up? The creepy guy that has to sit right next you when there are plenty of seats available elsewhere?

Who wants to pay $10 per person plus take out a second mortgage to buy snacks to when you can wait 4-6 months and buy the damn thing for about twenty bucks and watch it in the comfort of your own home over and over again with cheaper, better quality snacks and the only crowds you have to deal with are how many people you want to stuff in your living room?

5.) HDTV, Big-Ass TV's, Home Theatres and Rentals are killing the movie theatre experience.
Everyone wants ot have the biggest, shiniest, most state-of -the-art gizmos for their home. Everyone generally buys the best audio-visual equipment they can afford, and many buy more than they can afford. When you've maxed out your credit line for that big screen mofo you just had to have who can afford to go out to a movie theatre anyway.

Everyone has or knows someone who can create a theatre-like experience in their own home. Hell, if you have a comfy couch, a color TV and some microwave popcorn you are already having a better theatre experience than the average moviegoer. Why go out when you can watch a movie in your jammies with your friends with a grown-up beverage, good snacks and you get to fall asleep on your couch when the movie inevitably sucks?

And people are generally lazy. Okay, okay, People work hard all day long to pay for their toys and deserve to stay home and relax. Why go out to see something when thanks to Netflix the movie will comes to you? I LOVE NETFLIX.

So in conclusion to anyone who may be reading this, the movie going public votes with their behinds and those soft, round assets are not in theatre seats. I know we keep bringing this up every now and then but both love movies. Really, we do. But we care more about the experience as a whole and don't want to piss away our hard earned dollars for a crappy time. Life is short, y'know? I will stop now before I start ranting about the music industry.

December is my least favorite month.

I think the winter blah's are starting to creep in. Maybe it's the remnants of the plague I've since last week. I feel better but I'm not 100% yet. I'm still stuffy, tired and I am feeling damn grouchy. It's too early for the winter blah's... and I've been able to keep the holiday freakout under control so far this year... it isn't even time for Aunt Flo to kick in the front door. Wassup with me?

I officially graduate in about 6 weeks. The photography program I am in has been a total blast. I've had alot of fun and learned alot but this last month has started to leave a bad taste in my mouth. It's almost as if they can't wait to get us out of their hair and I am not even going to begin about the idiots in the equipment room. First class idiot's I tell ya! Not the way to wrap up what would otherwise be a great program.

So here I am on my day off, hoping to get a ton of work done. Am I? NO. I am sitting in my bathrobe freezing my ass off typing on my blog. Yay me. I should go take a shower and get moving.

In other news I have a killer photo gig next week! Gettin' paid a ton for 5 hours shooting. Here's hoping I can keep the post work to a minimum. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I like to spend time on each photo and there will be hundreds of them. I hope my energy returns before then.

Now about that shower...

Nice Cookies!

I'm going to a cookie swap next week and just found THESE cookie cutters. If I had found them weeks ago I'd make them becasue I'm a naughty girl.

I Opened The Window and In Flew Enza.

I am awake.

I was awake for much of last night so I am now forcing yself to be awake this morning so that hopefully I can get to sleep at a normal hour tonight. I am not at school today. I tried, I really did. This current class is not required to graduate, but I do regret not going today, but my body says no. NO. NO, NO, NO, NO.

Welcome to wallowing at the shallow end of the flu pool... come on in the water is tepid. Hopefully this will be the end of it soon. I can't take anymore daytime television. Is it me or is daytime TV all about making gay men cry these days? I knew there was alot of crap on TV these days but woah... I had no idea it was this bad. With the writers strike I suppose it will only get worse.
