Lost in Translation

Yup... the title of this movie pretty much sums it up for me. Yes, we have FINALLY gotten around to watching it and I'm not sure what the big deal was.

National Blog Posting Month!

Have y'all heard about National Novel Writing Month? Otherwise known as NaNoWriMo, this was started to encourage people to get off their asses and write that damn book they've been talking about forever.

Now I do not consider myself a writer... I am a more
visual type of person, but I am a journal writer (though a pretty lazy one these days) and I am a blogger. I am also not into S&M (much) so I will not be writing a novel in the month of November.

I will however be participating in
National Blog Posting Month, also known as NaBloPoMo, which if you say it really fast sounds someone barfing and makes me giggle. I generally do post something everyday, so this shouldn't be too difficult for me. I encourage all of you with blogs to do the same. If you don't have a blog, then write something in your journal everyday... it's good for you! And it gives me something to think about besides how much I hate Christmas.

Happy Birthday Mom!

If Wishes Were Fishes

I do this quirky little thing whenever I see the time on a digital clock that reads 11:11 or 5:55, or 12:12... anytime there is a sequence of numbers that repeats. When this happens I make a wish.

In order for the wish to come true I close my eyes, make the wish and then I cannot actually see the time change. Call it superstition... but I do not allow myself to look at the clock again until enough time has passed that I am guaranteed not to see the time change from the wish time to the next.

I also make the same wish EVERY SINGLE TIME. I cannot tell you what the wish is... that would mess with the magic of it. But so far it's working.

RIP Jorge

RIP Jorge
Jorge was an old family friend. He and his family lived across the street from my family for years. I didn't know him well, but always came to every party, wedding and gathering and always had nice things to say to me and Ron. Things haven't been easy for Jorge lately and it's sad to see that he died alone. May he rest in peace.

Random Update

It was a busy, get shit done sort of weekend this week. I cleaned my side of the studio and found shit I forgot I owned, projects I forgot I started and all kinds of surprises! I even found 3 boxes of Christmas cards I bought in the last couple of years after Christmas when they were 50% off! I'm all set for cards provided I don't need more than 36 of them, and if I do need more than 36 then somebody fuckin' kill me okay?

I have also been slowly going through old computer stuff and backing shit up, burning DVD's and generally archiving my 40,000+ digital photos. Tagging all them old photo's is a BITCH. All this while trying to stay on top of the new stuff I take and learn every day.

I also did mad laundry, washed dishes, emptied trash and cleaned up the house a bit. I got packages together to run to the post office, library books ready to return, did my homework and I even had time to relax.

Comments?

It has come to my attention that some of you fine folks are not able to post comments on this site. The comments feature has always been a little hinky and bothersome and I am starting to wonder if it's time to change the look of this site and perhaps make it a little more user friendly. (Yeah, 'cause I need ANOTHER project right now...)

Please drop me a line at reallystrangegirl at gmail dot com and tell me what you think about this issue. If you are able to use the comments, by all means tell me what you think there. If I decide to change anything major it probably won't happen until after the new year.

Anyone want to be in a Movie?

The folks filming the movie "The Game Plan" starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are looking for football fans as extras. More info HERE.

Artist of The Week!

This weeks Artist of The Week is Laura Zindel!

Her dishes, platters, vases and such are both classically designed and whimsical. I'm not sure I love the stuff with the spiders on it, but everything else is simply wonderful.

Someday when I am rich and famous I will get a full set of her dishes for my dining room table.

You can see her work HERE.

Holiday Shopping

Well, folks, it's that time of year again... okay, actually it really isn't.

I generally wait to post this a little closer to Christmas... like AFTER Halloween at least, but it has come to my attention that folks are shopping early this year.

To those of you who are shopping for us this year, DON'T. We are only planning on buying gifts for immediate family and children of our acquaintance as we have for the past 2 years. What few gifts we are buying we are keeping to a minimum of well thought out but not extravagant items.

And speaking of immediate family... those of you who happen to be related to us and are feeling the wallet pinch may also choose to not buy us anything and in turn we will not buy you anything... you save money, we save money and we all know that we really thought about buying all kinds of wonderful things for each other without the panic attacks that come with the post-holiday bills. Drop us a line and we'll discuss it further.

We would love to get together and see everyone... especially those of you we haven't seen in a while, maybe have a potluck dinner or do something for New Years.

But I really, really, really don't want to think about Christmas until I have a tummy full of turkey, or at the very least, full of Halloween candy, okay?

Artist of The Week!

This weeks Artist of The Week is Ron Mueck!
I first discovered him while on vacation in Canada last May. He is the creator of the giant babyhead sculpture. This wonderful sculptor has no formal art training and used to work on Muppet productions such as Fraggle Rock and Labyrinth. He was the puppeteer and voice of Ludo the Goblin in Labyrinth as well. His current work is simply stunning. If you ever get a chance to see his work in person do it. Photos do not do it justice.

Random Update with...

...drum roll please... PHOTOS!
('bout fucking time too, eh?)

It's been a while since I have had a post with any real meat to it... I have been a little busy with school and being sick and hating my job and, and, and....

Okay, I don't really hate my job, but I'm not loving it. Haven't in a long time. Years even. But that's another story.

I have been sick, and seem to be at the tale end of this plague. Thankfully it doesn't seem to have settled in my chest, but it's ain't over til that fat lady sings, right? My nose is still stuffy, but that could also be attributed to allergies.

This past Monday I went and drove the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire with Sarah from school. There will be pictures soon... I promise! I am behind on posting photos these days, but I am catching up. The latest offerings will be listed below.

I've been sleeping alot lately. What started out as sleeping to ward off this plague I have been suffering from, then sleeping to heal myself has turned into sleeping because, well, I like sleeping. I am also a night owl. Goddess forbid I go to sleep early... no, I prefer to do my sleeping during daylight hours. This could be bad in the long run... I recall turning nearly nocturnal several summers in a row as a teenager and I didn't get a whole lot done then. I can't afford to do this as an adult.

And now the photos!
- Wandering Around Kenmore Square - Who the hell plans a going away party in a bar a block away from Fenway Park just before a baseball game?
- Goodbye Katie! - another nurse goes bye-bye! We're gonna miss ye Katie!
- Charles River Museum of Industry - I gotta go back here soon!
- Brimfield Fair - Someone asked me to remove two photos from this set because she thought they were unflattering. I don't believe in censorship, sorry babe, but I did make them private so only certain people could see them.
- Trip to The MFA - Me and Carrie get our art mojo flowin'
- stARt On The Street Worcester - More art mojo, only it was damn hot so this is a small set.
- Funny Car! - The art car is NOT dead! Long live the art car!
- Another Saturday Evening Jam Session (9/23/06) - I believe Ali was lookin' for these...

I have recently discovered the band Lacuna Coil and I have fallen for them pretty hard. Anyone who is a fan of Evanescence will probably like this Italian band. Lacuna Coil is what Evanescence hopes to be when they grow up.

Dreams

I've been having weird dreams again...
I can't remember a whole lot of detail so I'm not even sure why I am writing about this. I wonder what causes these strange sleepy visions of mine? Is it the full moon? Hormone overload? eating chinese food for dinner two nights in a row? I don't know.

Recent dreams include a female friend renting porno films online using someone elses account, working in daycare center for deaf children, and the library dream.
What is the library dream? Well, I work in a public library and I have this recurring nightmare that I have been having for YEARS. The nightmare is that it is Friday evening, hours after the library closes. Where I work has entrances on both sides of the building and in this dream I am trying to get everyone out of the building because the library closed hours ago.

When I head out to lock one set of doors people flood in on the other side, so I run over to lock those, leaving the first side exposed and people start coming from that end. I run back and forth trying to lock doors, Then I am trying to herd the folks already in the building out and none of the other staff will help me. They just stand there getting pissed off because they can't leave until I get everyone out.

What does this say about me or my job? Probably alot.

AWESOME!

I love this guy! Click on his face to read about him and take a guess what he does for a living!

Feh.

I am still sick, but I am starting to feel better. Throw in a healthy dash of the usual hormone hayride though and I was sort of a mess this morning. Fucking hormones.

Things That Cook My Noodle Vol. 7639

Everyday I read or hear of something that convinces me that the pro-life, religious, right-wing propaganda machine is not about God at all. It's about controlling peoples sex lives. THIS is the latest evidence.

Happy Birthday!

The onslaught of October birthdays begins!

Happy 30th Birthday to Dawn!

I don't have a suitable photo - YET - but as soon as I get caught up on pictures I will have something to post... or perhaps Carrie can help me out here?

Artist of The Week!

This weeks Artist of The Week is
Fujiko Isomura!
She is a Japanese born artist that takes traditional print making and painting techniques and adds a modern twist. I love this traditional style of art and I love her wonderful, quirky "plot twists" the story of each piece.

You are An Expendable Character (Redshirt)

Since your accomplishments are seldom noticed, and you are rarely thought of, you are expendable. That doesn't mean your job isn't important but if you were in Star Trek you would be killed off in the first episode you appeared in.

Note: the code for this quiz is VERY wonky... I pieced together the above without the little chart that goes with it which by the way proves I was a pube hair shy of being Spock. Red shirt... HA! stupid fucking quiz if you ask me... sheesh!
