Are You a Ghost?

I was on my way home from work tonight when I noticed a cemetery that I pass every day was all lit up. I turned around and pulled over to investigate. I parked my car at the end of a line of cars, got out of my car and stumbled several flights of 200 year old stairs in near total darkness while wearing clothing that looked almost as old. (pictures coming...)

At the top of the hill I saw that the house bordering the cemetery had lit up their entire yard with spotlights... and with good reason... it was Halloween and they lived next to a cemetery. I had grabbed my camera and started taking pictures of the stones silhouted against the light when I saw two very small children and and adult wandering around looking at the stones.

My digital camera gives off a faint blue glow from the back and I guess I looked pretty spooky there, in the cemetery, in renaissance garb, with blue light becasue one of the children spotted me and asked "Are you a ghost?" I told the child "No." and she said "Oh good!" and resumed looking at stones.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Have a great, fun, spooky and safe night everyone!

One more thing...

Scooter Libby has no eyebrows. Discuss?

Pirates, Periods, and Petticoats...

Halloween is my favorite holiday... but I'm not really in the mood for it this year. There really wasn't much of a fall, which is my favorite season... we went from BEAUTIFUL summer-like September days right into wet and cold, and then yesterday it snowed. It just plain SMELLS wrong for this time of year. Where are the cool, brisk days with the leaves crunching under your feet? This year everything is soggy and has that pre-mildew odor. I can see the sun through the window today... maybe I should go outside and see it.

Maybe I am just PMS-sy... Me and Ron will usually decorate the front of the house the day or so before Halloween (Um... that would be today as I sit here in my bathrobe and type this...) but he is sick and I have hormones kickboxing in my head and I just don't feel like doing much of anything today. Often friends will stop by on Halloween night... I think this year will be a little quieter... I will at least answer the door in costume though, and maybe walk around taking pictures of local kids. I will also have the garden hose ready to soak anyone even thinking of raising an egg laden arm in the direction of the hearse. You have been warned.

I intend on being a Pirate Queen for work tomorrow, but was also considering being Darth Vader... but I can't see a computer screen in the mask. Can you imagine me telling someone they have a late charge on their library card with a Darth Vader voice changer? Heh, heh... I have to did out all of my costume stuff today and try stuff on... Dear Goddess, PLEASE don't let me get Ron's cold or whatever the hell he's got and my period at the same time... and not tomorrow either, I don't really want to deal with bathroom neccesesities in petticoats.

If anyone is free on Wednesday, you might consider going to the Day of The Dead Celebration at The Forest Hills Cemetery. I have to work and go to a doctors appointment that I have waited 3 months for, but I wish I could go! I hope someone can go so they can tell me about it.

MUST. PLAY. SIM. CITY.

Yesterday I installed SimCity 4 into my new computer. Guess what I did all day? Yes folks, I am QUEEN of Skeetersville and Fuckitsville. This game is fucking addictive. If you have played, you understand... I played so long yesterday my hand hurts and dare I say it, but I went to bed feeling just a little bit concerned about how my citizens would fare overnight. I didn't get a damn thing done yesterday and I am using all of my willpower to not start playing again today.

If a tree falls in your yard, does Verizon care?

Where the hell have I been?
Well, one of the neighbors trees fell into our yard on Tuesday taking all of the wires connecting us to the outside world with it. Pictures are HERE.

We have been without phones or internet access for 4 days. 4 days is a long time! (not that I am addicted to the internet or anything...) I have alot of catching up to do! Everyone has been busy blogging up a storm, sending emails and all the news I've missed! I don't watch TV much and get most of my news from the internet... So much has happened! George Takei came out of the closet for chrissakes! Not that that is a total surprise... (Um, Fraser... care to chime in here?)

My car suffered no major damage... the roof is lightly dented and there are all kinds of new scratches all over it... little lines everywhere, kind of like the veins on Joan Rivers' legs. Amazingly there was no broken glass.

It's been a hell of a week, and now that I can tell you all about it I am at a loss for words... I am tired, Ron has a cold, and I have a new computer to play with! I had so much to say ove rthe last couple of days and have now forgotten most of it. Why don't y'all tell me what you've been up to?

Damn You Diana Gabaldon!!!!

Diana Gabaldon's new book is out, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and I will be returning my copy to the library today for two reasons:

- I need to get some sleep.
- I will be going out and buying it... probably this weekend.

How is this book interfering with my sleep?
Well, I do have these random boughts of mild insomnia where I have a hard time getting to sleep, but once I am asleep, I can stay asleep for DAYS. I am experiencing this phenomenon right now. I don't know what causes it... it could be the weather, the moon or that mysterious point in my menstrual cycle that says "I'm going to fuck with you now" or some bizaare combination of the three.

This little problem is worse if if I have a good book to read. A good and very LONG book.

This book is just shy of 1000 pages and in the past I have been listening to the recorded versions because the books are rather heavy and don't exactly fit in my purse. So if I actually read the books I do so at home and my preffered reading time is... you guessed it, right before I go to sleep.

I was on the waiting list at the library for the unabridged audio (abridged books are a waste of my time...) and I was so anxious to get into the story that I reserved the book as well. Guess which came in for me first? Yup.... 3lbs of printed sleepless nights.

Now that I have the CD's (Davina Porter is the best reader by the way...) I will be listening to them in the car. All 48 of them. Then Kenny will be fighting me for them. I will start to look forward to spending a total of an hour and a half in the car each day just so I can hear what happens next and my commute won't seem quite so bad for a few weeks. I will hopefully be able to get some sleep, though some nights you may find me sitting in my car in the driveway just so I can listen to "one more chapter" before going into the house.

If you haven't read these books yet, I highly recommend them. Who among you do I think will enjoy these most? I''m betting Sharon, Carrie, Carla and Dawn would most likely dig these... especially Dawn... I ken ye have a fancy for all things Scottish, no? These books have just the right amount of drama, violence, fantasy, and sex in them, and the author is a bigger stickler for historical acurracy than I am... well except for the whole time travel thing... that isn't terribly accurate, but who am I to say such things can't happen?

Random Update

I have a new computer! It's pretty and it's red! Ron and Kenny spent most of yesterday building it for me and Ron spent most of today loading stuff onto it for me. YAY!!!!! I now have my Wacom tablet back too! Weeeeee! Now to start seriously playing with Photoshop and tweaking things.

I also starting making earrings like a madwoman today. I made 30 pairs this afternoon. I will be selling them at a craft show in Townsend in November and hopefully at another craft show at Wellesley College in December. More info on those as the dates draw closer.

Last night we went over to Tom & Carrie's and we went out to dinner for Tom's birthday. The musicly inclined guys made some noise in the basement and the rest of us played Taboo upstairs. I have a few pitures, but I haven't put them up yet... I will eventually though!

That's all for now...
over and out!

Mall Beauty Products, Mini-vans, Boobies and Trouble...

I know, I know... I haven't really been posting as much as I used to... and what I have been posting has been, well... not terribly interesting. Well, except for Fraser, he's always interesting!

But let me tell you about Saturday Night!
Me and Ron went over to Bill and Amanda's in the late afternoon to visit before me and Amanda went next door to a girls-only neighborhood party. We hung out with them for a while, played with Dylan, then me and Amanda left the guys to head next door.

The party was a Body Shop party where you sample and buy Body Shop products. The woman presenting the products seemed a little inexperienced, but generally did a good job. I don't think she was expecting drinking during the party and things got a little rowdy. After spending some money and getting a little drunk... some of us got more drunk than others, we piled into a mini-van and headed out to a local bar.

Once there we order drinks and wander over to a pool table and four of the seven of us start playing pool. Me, Amanda and someone whose name I can't remember and is REALLY drunk and who is drinking more starts to talk to us about how good a golfer her husband is and how it is as if he was "touched by god" with his golfing prowess. Uh-huh... yeah. Amanda suddenly needs a cigarette, and I suddenly have this urge to join her.

We return to the drunk women playing pool... now don't get me wrong, hanging out with a bunch of gals getting drunk can be fun, and for the most part this evening was... it was just, um, interesting as well. Some people are quiet drunks, some people are happy drunks... some people are LOUD drunks and others are morose. Trouble starts to brew when you get too many of these different facets of drunkenness in one group of people, who me and Amanda do not know very well, if at all, before this evening.

Trouble also starts when you get a seemingly happy bunch of married suburban women really, really drunk and their hidden misery starts to show. It was a little scary. Each one of these women were interesting and delightful in their own way, but boy oh boy, get a few drinks in some of them and watch out!

So I pull out my camera and start to document the evening when Mrs. Golfer decides to pull up her shirt and flash me. "Did you get that?" she asks and I mutter "Um, no..." so a few of the other gals start lifting up and pulling down shirts, exposing expensive brassieres and bare breasts before me so I can "get the shot" Amanda looks horrified and I did not take the picture. All I can think of is that these chicks are going to get us kicked out of here. Keep in mind that I am pretty much a stranger to these women... I don't just go around flashing just anyone! I gotta get to know ye a little, you know what I mean? Sheesh....

After a few rounds of pool and multiple breast exposures someone realizes that it is karaoke night. Oh joy! I was hoping that it was just a DJ setting up in the corner for the local prom or something, but no... it was fucking karaoke. Kill me. I order a second apple martini which someone else obligingly pays for ( I owe somebody drinks, money or both, I think...) and find a table to sit at. A few of the gals sign up to sing and I just sip my drink and hope no one notices me.

"You want to sing, don't you?" one of them asks me and I say "No." She says "aw... c'mon!" And I say in a not too friendly voice "NO." and she backs off. Mrs. Golf approaches a lone gentleman who apears old enough to be her father and quickly persuades him to dance. By dancing I mean grinding her crotch against his to badly sung pop music as we all stare at her in mild horror and disgust. He appears to be having the time of his life when his wife returns from the bathroom.

I believe I mentioned something about trouble a few paragraphs ago? Well, trouble just sat down at her table looking pissed as her husband was bumping and grinding with someone half his age. Fortunately she was also drunk and when Mrs. Golf offered to buy her and her table a round drinks she seemed to calm down. Before you know it, Mrs. Golf was dancing with the two of them and getting along just fine.

At this point I wonder if it is time to go, and Mrs. Golf is swapping recipes with her dancing partners and declining Thanksgiving dinner invitations... it looks like they might want to take her home with them. Someone orders food, which I thankfully partake in and the rest of our bunch starts to dance. I am, sadly, drunk enough to join the dancing. The older couple offers to buy us a round of drinks so I am off to meet martini number three.

At this point several of us think it's about time to go, so I gulp my martini and grab my coat. Fortunatly one of us is still sober enough to drive... I feel fine, but I know better, plus I don't know where we are. We all pile into the mini-van and head back to suburbia... Amanda and Bill's neighbor says a hasty goodnight and runs inside presumably to vomit. Me, Amanda and Mrs. Golf retire to B&A's house to hang out for a while before heading home. Mrs. Golf is staying with the next door neighbor, but she doesn't feel like going to bed just yet... oh no... she's feeling "chatty".

"I'm a good person! I don't go around kicking people in the streets!" she explains for some bizarre reason. She also launches into her "my husband is an amazing golfer" story again and Ron cuts her off with an "I think golf is stupid" rant that leaves her thankfully speechless. File this chick under "talkative and morose drunk" and you have an idea of what we were dealing with. I can't remember what else she may have said, and I think that is a good thing.

All in all it was a fun and interesting evening. I found a new bar that makes a pretty decent martini... now if only I can remember where it was....

New Photo's and not much else...

New photos are up!

More Angsty Angst to Shake Your Angst At.

Yesterday wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be... neither was today for that matter. I can't quite completely shake this nagging feeling of dread though... it's almost as if people can hear the running commentary that goes through my head all day long. I tend to think really evil thoughts about all the jerks I encounter everyday and it's a good thing I don't act on these thoughts or there might just be a body count.

Can they really hear what I am thinking, or is it written all over my face?

Double, Double Toil and Trouble

I really don't want to go to work today.
I don't know why... Well, I mean, I often don't want to go to work, (who does?) but for some reason today I am filled with dread over it.

I know I'm being silly, but I can't shake this feeling.

I'm Awake...

It's almost 1am and I'm awake... this isn't unusual really.
What is unusual is that I got up again... usually I try to stay in bed because then if I am not sleeping I am at least resting.

I am actually very tired... which is odd because I pretty much sat on my ass all day messing around online, playing with and posting digital photos, printing stuff for my "real" journal and generally being lazy.

Right now I am reading one of those terribly interesting books that make you think. Thinking is BAD when you are trying to sleep. What is this book? It's Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. It's a book about writing. I didn't seek this book out, rather, it found me.

Books often find me when I least expect them or when I most need them. I can't tell you which instance this is this time. I do not think of myself as a writer, but considering I wrote this here blog entry and you are reading it, maybe I am.

So I can't sleep. I bet if I keep reading I'll have this book finished within the hour, but then what? I will probably still be awake trying to make sense of what I just read and how it applies to me. I should probably find a less interesting book to read for the remainder of my awakeness and hopefully it will be dull enough to put me to sleep... or at the very least a book that does not make me think... at least not too hard anyway.

More Fucked up Tom Cruise News...

I forget who I was talking to, but I predicted that Katie Holmes was already pregnant, and voila! It hit the news this week. Was it the slight belly bump? Was it the terrified and overwhelmed look in her eyes? Was it the fact that neither have them have been caught on camera in a while? who knows... I call it a female hunch... damn, I'm good!

If you weren't already convinced that Tom Cruise is nuts and Scientology was a smidge um... out there, check THIS out. Any of you gals with kids want to chime in on this one?

Bob Mould, Cemeteries and BEES!

Note: All pictures mentioned below are not up yet... I need to sleep, so stay tuned!

I took the day off yesterday so Me and Ron could go see Bob Mould at The Paradise last night. It was an awesome show... he had a full band backing him up including Brendan Canty, the drummer from Fugazi. They played songs from all over Bob's long career and he actually seemed to be having a good time as he played. I shot a bunch of pictures which I will post as soon as I can. I tried not to use flash though because that just gets annoying to have that going off in peoples faces all night, so the pictures are rather blurry, but blurry to good effect. (Pictures are up! They are HERE!)

I also spent the last of my birthday gift certificates at Paper Source yesterday.... now to stop buying supplies and start using the stuff I have! Gotta go make stuff! Weeee!!!!!

I stopped at the little church cemetery across the street from Paper Source and took some pictures there, then I found a really cool, textbook creepy cemetery in South Natick, just off of Route 16, behind Eliot Church. I almost pissed off a whole lot of bees there... there was a hole in the ground I did not see and I almost stepped right on it. It was an underground bees nest of some sort. (What kind of bee makes a nest in the ground? hornets?)

There I was, taking pictures... not looking where I was stepping and I feel a slight whoosh of air next to me. When I looked to my left there were 5-6 big giant bees flying in and out of the hole... I decided that the stone I was looking at wasn't worth the potential pain and I have no idea if I am allergic to bees or not. I didn't stick around to find out! I was wearing a big baggy t-shirt and I almost totally freaked. It was all I could do not to start screeching and flailing off my clothes just in case there was a bee in my shirt. I very calmly shook my shirt and slowly walked away.

*shudders*

An Oldie but Goodie!

I forgot how much fun THIS SITE was!

Wizard World, Castle Island and Stormtroopers...

I apologize if last nights post was a little um... too revealing. When I don't feel well I tend to focus on the source of discomfort.

Anywhooo!
Saturday Me and Ron went to Wizard World Boston, a large comic book convention at The Bayside Expo Center. We met up with Kenny & Carol there and later hooked up with Carrie, Tom & Jack. Fraser was there of course, with a co-worker friend named Bob. (For those of you who don't know, Fraser, Bob and my sister Angela all work at the same place.)

Boston comic con's have a reputation for sucking bigtime and I fully expected this one to be no different. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was pretty well run and quite large. Usually you get a bunch of fanboys and fangirls who decide to pool the remains of their college funds together to host a convention with some B, C or D list actor or actress as the guest of honor, or some author you've never heard of. This one had it's share of that, but there were some bigger names as well such as Joe Quesada and Mick Foley. We ran into some old customers of Ron's from back in the Walpole Comics days, which was nice and said hi to David Mack and Andy Lee.

Pictures from Wizard World Boston are HERE.

After the convention we went to Castle Island with Kenny & Carol. It was a beautiful day... perfect for walking around by the sea. We saw some guys catching sand sharks on a pier. They left them to die as they continued to fish (they stay fresher longer that way) and they seemed pretty cool about letting folks touch them and pick them up. The sharks were destined for soups in various chinatown restaurants.

Pictures from Castle Island are HERE.

That evening we all headed out to Carrie and Tom's for an evening of chillin' out with friends and chinese food. Ron, Tom and Mark made some noise and the rest of us played Scattergories... as much as I LOVE Scattergories I think it's time to find a new game. Taboo anyone?

Picture's from the evening will be HERE when I get my ass in gear.

Ron learns a new word: Unguent.

unguent - (ung'gwent), n. Any ointment used as a salve.

Why has Ron learned this new word? Because I was lamenting the fact that my ass is on FIRE due to having diarrhea all day long and could now use a "soothing unguent on my bum" to which Ron said, "That isn't a word! You made that up." Alas no, I did not make it up... neither the word unguent nor the fact that my rectum is is rather um... tender.

Why do I tell you people this? Well for one, I have no shame. Second, I wish to warn you all. Last night I ate chinese food from a restaurant in downtown Framingham called Sampan. I want to state here, for the record, that last night I said the words "I have never had a good Sampan experience." This tradition continues.

I woke up in the middle of the night last night hot, sweating and with rather intense stomach cramps. At first I thought it was the liquor I had consumed throughout the evening, but I didn't have enough to have this effect on me. I got up up and staggered to the bathroom fully expecting to puke my guts out and go back to sleep.

I did not orally erupt as I had expected (hoped?) nor did the ass-plosions commence at this time. I drank some water, washed my face, pressed my face against the blessedly cold tile of my bathroom wall for a while then went back to bed.

I do not know if any of my other dinner companions suffered the same fate that I did... I know Ron hasn't. If you have then you have my sympathy. Maybe I got the one undercooked peking ravioli? Maybe I got something with a piece of shrimp in it? Who knows? I just know that I will never eat at this particular restaurant again.

I will write about the fabulous day I had yesterday right on up to the sweating and stomach cramp bit tomorrow.... now I have to take my gurgly guts and burning ass to bed.
