RIP Andrew Wiernicki
I have some sad news to report. Our old friend and customer Andrew Wiernicki has passed away.
I was at work yesterday and didn't have time to take a proper break, but I took a quick "time out" if you will and was surfing news sites when out of nowhere I thought of Andrew. He was a talented sculptor and artist with the beginnings of an amazing, if late blooming, career in creating comic book related sculptures. We had lost touch with him in recent years and I wondered what he was up to and if he ever got his website up and running so I Googled him. This is how I learned that he passed away last November after a long fight with pancreatic cancer.
To say I am stunned is an understatement.
I did not know him well, but I had the pleasure of photographing his Kamandi Statue long before I knew what I was doing with a camera. Perhaps you ran into him at Walpole Comics? Or at a comic book convention? He was a sweet, quiet guy with a kick ass tattoo of an octupus on his neck. The man had more talent in his pinky finger than most people could even hope to posess. He had a rare quiet strength about him and he will be sorely missed.
Andrew's website can be seen HERE.
His obituary can be read HERE about 2/3 down the page.
