Star Trek

A friend sent this sentence to me in an email last night:
"Well, did you go see Star Trek? If yes, what did you think? If not, what are you thinking?"
And yes, we did go see Star Trek. In a nutshell it was everything I had hoped for and a little more. I was worried that Leonard Nimoy's appearance was going to be annoying but it worked. And the new Spock is... well... he's kind of hot. Can't put my finger on it since I don't usually go for the skinny emo boys but there is something about this new spock... hmm... And I'd never seen this actor in anything before so I didn't have and Heroe's baggage to work through while seeing him as Spock, which he did perfectly.
Anyway, I though Karl Urban was perfect as Bones and Simon Pegg nailed Scotty. Another friend of mine said that Scotty's role seemed to have been written as if it were Simon Pegg doing a parody of Scotty in typical Pegg fashion but I thought he was brilliant. The new Kirk had his moments where Shatner peeked through but he did a very good job all on his own. Zoe Saldana as Uhura was well cast but I remember Uhura as being a tad fiercer than Zoe's portrayal. And Sulu and Chekov? Well... not bad. Chekov accent was often comic relief and they have played that up a bit in this film. Overall, well done! I can't wait for the next one!
