News From A Broad, part 2

Tonight is our last night in the Dryburgh Abbey Hotel and while it is lovely here I can't wait to see something else. This will be our third night here and there are no stores within walking distance... not much at all within walking distance, unless you count a statue dedicated to William Wallace which isn't all that much to look at.

We have schlepped along to abbey after ruined abbey and while they too are lovely, I can't wait to see a real castle of fortress like proportions. We have also seen several country estates of the look but don't touch/photograph/breath on anything variety. Sir Walter Scott's house at Abbottsford was a refreshing change in that I was allowed to photograph any damn thing I pleased. So I did.

We have been treated to three evenings of gourmet dinners, three days of crap lunches and three mornings of humungous breakfasts. Dinners are especially painful as they are extremely formal, yet we were told we would not have any need of dressy clothes. Jeans are not allowed in the hotel dining room and I am glad I threw an extra skirt into my suitcase. We were both thrown when the waitress placed our napkins in our laps and now we make it an effort to beat them to it. I can't even begin to tell you how painful the dinner conversations have been and we are both rather sick of all the frou-frou type food. I would give my left breast for a cheeseburger right now. What I find interesting is that we had to fill out paper noting any food allergies have and fucking walnuts keep showing up on the menu. I don't like fish or mushrooms but I was so hungry I ate both tonight. I really want a cheeseburger... If I see a french fry or rather, a chip, I may just weep.

But enough bitching... Scotland is BEAUTIFUL! We are trying to keep an open mind and wish we could spend more time at each of our stops... but we figure this is a good sampling of things we hope to return to someday... when we can afford to come here on our own. Tomorrow we head off to Oban then on to Isle of Skye. Here's hoping the next hotel has a bar as well.
