Hopefully, he's learned his lesson. If not, hopefully he'll kill himself before he kills someone else.
"I don't remember how fast I was going" really means "I know exactly how fast I was going, but I'm not going to say anything because I'm stupid and I'll go to jail."
On the flip side, that's essentially the same car I drive. Since he should be a juicy bit of meat on the road, I guess the car did pretty well.
