Police bust two after New Year's party goes awryBy Danielle Ameden/Daily News CorrespondentMonday, January 01, 2007ASHLAND - A New Year's Eve party gone "awry'' led to the arrests of two intoxicated men early yesterday morning, police said. It came in as a fight call but it turned out to be a party that went awry,'' said Sgt. Richard Briggs.
Apparently a few of the partygoers decided to get themselves involved in a fight. Police responded to 37 Concord St. where a fight had broken out on the front lawn. When police arrived, he said the conflict had cooled, physically, but the mood remained hostile. Steven Mclean, 22, of 37 Concord St. and David R. Martin, 26, of 41 Pine Island Road, Milford, became belligerent as officers attempted to break up the crowd at 12:30 a.m., Briggs said.
"They were exchanging words,'' Briggs said. The partygoers were clearly intoxicated and voicing their displeasure with the officers being present.'' Both were arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. They refused to disperse,'' he said. They both resisted the officers' advances. According to Briggs, the fight had been fueled by alcohol. There was a lot of (empty beer cans) in the apartment,'' he said. Police dispersed more than a dozen partygoers who had gathered on the front lawn to watch the fight. Rides were arranged for everybody else and they were sent home, he said.
